Please join us for a webinar with Daniel Gilman, Humanitarian Affairs Officer with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) on the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in Humanitarian Response. This is the first in a series of webinars on UAVs produced by Andrew Schroeder, Director of Research and Analysis, Direct Relief and the NetHope Solutions Center. You can find additional information on the webinar series here
Daniel will give an overview of recent trends in the use of UAVs for humanitarian response, based on the upcoming OCHA policy paper “Help from Above: UAVs in Humanitarian Response”. This will touch on lessons learned from recent projects in Haiti and the Philippines and emerging issues around how to integrate and analyze data from UAVs into existing information management systems, as well as challenges around regulation, privacy and community engagement. While the focus will be on the use of UAVs in responding to natural disasters, the challenges of using UAVs in conflict settings, as well as emerging issues from the use of UAVs by UN Peacekeeping Missions in the DRC and elsewhere will also be discussed.
