This is the first virtual convening of the NLG Tech Task Force.  The Task Force was launched at the NLG EdTech Summit in Amman, Jordan, earlier this month. You can read more about the event and Task Force here. This webinar will feature an initiative that was mentioned at the NLG EdTech Summit — NetHope’s Project Reconnect.

In 2015, one million people sought refuge in Germany, fleeing war and persecution in their home countries. Now, these refugees face new challenges: learning a new language, settling into new communities, resuming education, and finding work.

With the support of Google.org, NetHope launched Project Reconnect, an initiative providing 25,000 managed Chromebooks to nonprofit organizations supporting refugees in Germany by facilitating access to education and information resources on the web.

In March 2016, Project Reconnect announced the first organizations to receive Google Chromebooks. Now, 43 nonprofits are implementing the Chromebooks in public libraries, adult education centers, welcome centers, and community centers throughout Germany. As a result, refugees are learning German, connecting to their new lives in Germany, and accessing education and employment opportunities.

In this session, Sybille Fleischmann, Program Lead for Project Reconnect, will provide an overview of the initiative and highlight key learnings and collaboration examples that could help inform and benefit the work that Task Force members are doing across the region and in Europe.
