Practicing the Principles for Digital Development in East Africa

Practicing the Principles for Digital Development in East Africa

The Principles for Digital Development are the distilled knowledge of hundreds of professionals and thousands of projects into nine best practice guidelines to improve the use of technology in development. The Digital Principles are currently endorsed by 81 organizations, including USAID, UNICEF, NDI, Grameen Foundation, IntraHealth International, SIDA, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and many more.

The Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL)steward for the Principles, is now promoting their adoption around the world. We invite you to the first event, held Thursday, October 12, 2017 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in partnership with the Human Development Innovation Fund (HDIF), a UK Aid-funded innovation program. Join your peers and colleagues for a FREE conference with an exciting mix of educational keynotes, lightning talks, and interactive group sessions, to learn how you can live the Digital Principles every day too.

Leading organizations are putting the Digital Principles into practice already, finding innovations and gaining efficiencies that are inspiring a new way to implement development projects. Our discussions will cover current topics from the future of digital development to gender and inclusion, guided by thought leaders from a range of organizations in East Africa.

This event will be the first in a three-part series organized by DIAL, focusing on sharing innovations directly from implementers and practical guidance on the Digital Principles. Join us in Dar es Salaam to dive deep into three of the nine Principles – Be Collaborative, Design with the User, and Understand the Ecosystem.

As “living” guidelines, the Principles are designed to help digital development practitioners integrate established best practices into technology-enabled programs while incorporating feedback and new insights over time. They continue to be a community-driven global good, meant to advance the role of digital technology in development and to move the needle on ending global poverty into technology-enabled programs while incorporating feedback and new insights over time. Digital Impact Alliance

Organizer of PRACTICING THE PRINCIPLES FOR DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT in East Africa

The Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL) aims to realize a more inclusive digital society in emerging markets, in which all women, men and children benefit from life-enhancing, mobile-based digital services. A partnership among USAID, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Swedish Government and the United Nations Foundation, DIAL’s efforts help accelerate the collective efforts of government, industry and development organizations to realize this vision.

In 2016, the Digital Impact Alliance (DIAL) became the steward of the Principles for Digital Development. As steward, DIAL facilitates the increased adoption of the Principles into technology-supported programs.
