Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

A technology being leveraged for assessment in disaster zones is unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). UAVs provide a bird's-eye view of a disaster zone, which can aid in assessing damage and roadblocks as well as help identify the best places to set up equipment, tents and field hospitals. They are also being tested with thermal cameras to help find people trapped underneath rubble.

UAVs can be applied to many more missions besides emergency response. They can help survey areas for water as well as gather data and pictures for use in agriculture and conservation.
